Dr. Reno's archaeology lecture on Aug. 22 attracted a small but fascinated audience with many questions. He described the Civilian Conservation Corp's attempt at a flood control project for Bunkerville, NV in the 30's. The young CCC men ended up creating some skilled rock work that still exists today, but did not succeed in preventing flooding.
Interestingly, Reno pointed out that the original Silver City School House survived until its fiery demise in part due to a successful CCC project. More on that later...
“Silver City is a quiet, safe place to live and raise a family, and a town accustomed to standing up for itself. It is a community built on the values of knowing and caring for neighbors and for pitching in when need arises. We care for our kids, for our elders and for all others who can use a hand. Neighbor to neighbor, we stand by our community. Always.”

Silver City Volunteer Library Events 2008
September 2008 through May 2009 will include a series of community events on Friday evenings at the Silver City Volunteer Library. Drop in for an event, then browse the large collection and borrow to your heart's content. (Don't forget that there are literally 1,000 additional choices, including films, that are in storage due to space limitations upstairs, but available for check out.)
We're still deciding what to offer based on input from residents. Please take the poll on this page so we know what you like.
Beginning in September, we'll offer yoga classes for adults and teens age 13 and up with Theresa Simmons on Fridays for adults and teens who have volunteered with the Silver City Task Force or groups such as Community Roots, Community Treasures, Dayton Food Bank, SC School House Archaeology Project, SC Fire Department, DHS or DIS Stand Tall, etc.
2 hours of volunteer time equals one class, or you can make a donation ($10 is the suggested donation for one class). All funds go back into projects that benefit Silver City. Please call Quest at 847-0742 for times.
There seems to be lots of enthusiasm for cooking classes and films. This is your volunteer library, Silver City, so if you have events you'd like to organize, please contact me at 847-0742 and together we can make it happen...
