Fri April 3rd Soup Pot Luck Sponsored by the Silver City Arts group: Friday, April 3, 6:00 PM School House. No sign ups – whatever arrives we will eat. We will dine on the food and drink arriving on Friday, April 3. Soup can arrive in crockpots or they can be kept warm on the stove in the school house. Breads, salads, desserts and drinks are other options. If someone does not have funds to bring food, they should come anyway. We will share. That is what a community does.
Sunday, April 5th at 4pm Easter Potluck and Egg Hunt at the Silver City School House and park: Bring the kiddies, the grandparents, everyone and a dish to share and enjoy Easter Silver City style! April 11th and 12th Sale: Doodad's is closing. Sheree writes, "Hello dear friends, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are closing Doodads Emporium. On Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 from 10 am to 6 pm we will have our last big sale. We hope you will tell your friends and help us clear the place out. Who knows when the road will reopen. If you have consignment items, please let me know if you want to come pick them up or if we can sell them for the best price we can do. It's been a grand five years, thanks for your support. April 11th School House Spring Clean Up Day: Please join us for a much needed cleaning day for the Schoolhouse! At 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, the community will gather to give some love to our wonderful School House Community Center. Come on down and pitch in, enjoy the spirit of community and have some cookies! This event is hosted by Silver City Arts group.
May 9th Tour of Historic Schools on the Comstock: This tour features 3 nineteenth century schools on the Comstock - Silver City, Dayton and V.C. Although none are still used as schools, all remain active links with our history. The first school on the tour is the 1865 Dayton Grammar School, which is celebrating its 150th birthday this year. The second stop on the tour will be in Silver City. The final stop will be in Virginia City at the historic Fourth Ward School. May 16 Red Dog Film and “Cultural Repopulation” of Silver City Display: This event is part of Nevada's annual Historic Preservation celebration. It will include a display of rarely seen photographs, newspaper columns, essays, books, posters, and other artifacts related to the "cultural re-population" of the historical community of Silver City, Nevada between roughly 1965 and 2005. The evening will also include a screening of the director's cut of Silver City native Mary Works' documentary film "Life and Times of the Red Dog Saloon." Mary Works Covington will introduce the film. Afterward, she and her father Don Works, co-founder of the Red Dog Saloon, will host a Q & A. Several other long-time residents of the community will speak briefly about their experiences of the cultural repopulation of the town as they saw it. In addition, local Mary MacDonald will display her collection of Comstock music-scene memorabilia. Summer Kids Program: Every summer Silver City offers the Comstock region a free STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) program for kids ages 5 to 12 and and their parents. The annual program began in 2003 and has been offered each summer since, with varying themes, but always involving key STEAM concepts.The 2015 program will be on Tuesdays from 10am to noon in Silver City's park, beginning on Tuesday June 23rd and ending on Tuesday August 4th with a trip to see Shakespeare at Lake Tahoe. Activities this year include 1)art lessons with local professional artists 2)a June 30th bike safety "rodeo" with Western Safe Routes to Schools where kids will learn road rules and safety, and participate in bike maneuvers and exercises 3) hands-on projects that teach engineering concepts with guest teachers from the Society of Women Engineers 4) a "discovery" fair featuring science, math and literacy booths for parents and kids and 5)a field trip to see Shakespeare on the beach at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe. In addition to the younger children's program, this year we'll also have a real treat with local professional artist Karen Kreyeski volunteering to teach two beginning art classes for teens and adults on June 9th and June 16th. The first class will be "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain: Drawing Objects the Way You See Them." The second class will be called "Painting with the Spirit of Nature: Free Form Techniques Using Water, Sand and Salt." The yearly kids' program is possible, in part, by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, plus guest teachers from regional groups, and local fundraisers, donations and volunteer work from Silver City residents and groups.
July 18 Silver City Arts fine art exhibit, planned to coincide with Northern Nevada "Artown" events, will be at the School House. The show will include work by acclaimed artists that Silver City residents happen to have in their own private collections. Artwork by Walter McNamara; Mick Sheldon; Joan Arrizabalaga; Dick Peitz; Edw Martinez; Gus Bundy; Lucy Nieder; Mike Hess; Jim McCormick; Mimi Patrick; Richard Bodner; Margery Hall Marshall; and many others will be on display rom 10am-3pm

Poetry Corner at the Silver City Post Office Bulletin Board. You're invited to check the bulletin board in the Post Office for posted poems. Place your poems in the envelope if you'd like to share one of yours. With writers' permission, the poems will be published in a book next year. Sponsored by the Silver City Arts group.
