Fall 2018 Events in Silver City

Silver City, Nevada -There are lots of good things going on in Silver City this Fall. Here are a few highlights:

Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Silver City School House (or outside at the Silver Pavilion stage in the park if the weather is good). Monthly Acoustic Jam. Bring your instruments or just your voice to the School House and jam. Everyone welcome.

Saturday, October 27 from 3pm to 11:30pm. Mylo McCormick, the Resident Artist Program in Silver City's current visiting artist, will be on stage with Mo'z Motley Blues for the annual Halloween costume party in historic Virginia City at the Red Dog Saloon. Full bar, food, classic rock and dance music. https://www.mozmotleyblues.com/shows

Sunday, October 28 at 3:00 at the School House. Prep Day for the later Halloween event (see below for details about Halloween party). Volunteers will set up for the Wednesday party (see below), create a plan for decor, prepare some spooky snacks ahead of time, etc. Contact Sheree for more details.

Wednesday, October 31 from 7pm -10pm at the Silver City School House. Halloween costume party for ADULTS with music by Red Rose and friends. The entry fee is a contribution of "creepy snacks" or beverages. The event includes a prize for people’s choice of the favorite costume.


October 6, 2018 - Remembering American Flat: Long time Silver City denizen Ron Reno, PhD, gave a fascinating illustrated lecture on "The Art of Architecture at American Flat." Silver City Arts group partnered with Bureau of Land Management, with Alicia Jensen of BLM offering an introduction to a screening of their film "American Flat: Icon of the Comstock." Theo McCormick and Jack Freer provided additional photographs of the mill ruins, while SCA members provided refreshments. The event attracted about 40 people from Reno, Carson City, Dayton, Silver City, and even Abington, Virginia. October meetings:

Silver City Town Board
met on Oct 9th instead of the first Tuesday this month. On the agenda: Discussion of proclaiming Silver City and Carson City to be "Arts and Culture Sister Cities." Carson City Supervisor and elected official Karen Abowd, along with Carson City Arts Coordinator Mark Salinas, will be at the November town meeting to accept a formal proclamation. The Nov. town meeting will be on Tues Nov. 13 at 7pm due to conflict with midterm voting the previous Tuesday.

Silver City Arts group's monthly meeting: Wednedsay October 10th at the Silver City School House at 7pm. On the agenda: an upcoming Halloween party and the Dec. 1st SCA holiday event at the School House featuring work by local artists and artisans, etc.

Silver City's Cemetery Advisory Board meets Saturday, October 20 at 11:00 am at the Silver City School House. Agenda: have cemetery information placed on the county website. 2) An engineered plan for the new section of the cemetery. Everyone is welcome at the meeting.
